Chat Room Flirting Tips:

When you're free internet dating, reading profiles and sending emails is the most important part of the process (that is, other than meeting in person!). But many internet dating sites, also offer private online chat in addition to emails. And other than talking face to face, chatting is one of the best (and most fun) ways to flirt online.
Whether you're having a private online chat with somebody that you met here at any old internet chat room, there are ways to flirt effectively online. And there are ways to flirt poorly. Want to make sure you're putting your best flirt forward when chatting online? Follow some of the tips you'll find below.

Keep it friendly.

Unless you're just looking for a quick physical encounter (in which case flirting is much simpler and more straight-forward), flirting online is about getting to know the other person. Don't let the conversation get intense or too overtly sexual, or you will find yourself out of flirting territory and in someplace entirely different. Make the conversation about getting to know each other, not picking each other up.

Give them reason to respond.

When you're chatting, you're generally chatting with people that you've already had a chance to talk to or email. But sometimes you might also look to do a little flirting in general chat rooms online. When you instant message somebody that you see online, it's very important to give them a reason to respond. "Hi," or (even worse) "A/S/L ? (Age / Sex / Location)" just isn't going to do it. Instead, let them know why you chose to message them, or just say something interesting that will capture their attention.

Get personal.

When you move from emailing to chatting online, the best way to get the conversation going is to talk about something you have learned about that person. If, for instance, you've read on their internet dating profile that they work as a social worker, compliment them for working so hard to make a difference in people's lives. Or if one of the photos on their profile has captured your attention, ask about it: "who's the huge guy standing on your left-- if he's your boyfriend I think I'd better go!" or, "where was that picture taken? The lake behind you is gorgeous. (Though not as gorgeous as you.)"
The best kind of flirting is complimentary, personal, and specific. This is what shows somebody that you're a real person who is interested in them as a real person. Which is exactly what you want to do.

Keep it light.

It's fun to come up with things to say and compliments to give a person you're chatting with. But there is such a thing as going too far. If you go on and on about what you like about a person or their internet dating profile, you may just come across as strange or needy. Which isn't something too many people find attractive. Give them just enough to see your interest, but not too much.
Also, avoid getting too dirty or crude, especially when chatting with somebody for the first time. The sexy picture on her internet dating profile may make you think dirty thoughts, of course, but it's best to keep them to yourself until you get to know her better. Doing otherwise will probably scare her away.

Don't ask too many questions.

When you can't think of anything to say, it's normal to ask a lot of questions to get him or her talking, instead. But if you do this too much, it's easy to come off as domineering or demanding. And if you don't share anything about yourself in return, it might look like you're hiding something, or afraid to make connections. Again, keep it light.
The truth is, there are really no rules when it comes to chatting online or at an internet dating site. While you don't want to do too much too soon (and risk scaring an interesting prospect away), the whole point of flirting is to relax and have fun. So you should do just that! You never know... maybe he or she will have just as much fun as you do.
